LTO Speed: Arcanada 113 Love Dreams 110 Mazyoun 107

PTARMIGAN RIDGE returned in good form at Haydock a fortnight ago, and could easily go forward again today with track, trip and ground all in his favour. Solid on the clock and with a low draw in stall two, it's no surprise to see this prominent racer bossing the market at odds of around 4-1. Shady McCoy failed to fire on his return at Haydock a fortnight ago, but rates top on the clock today, and has ticks in the important boxes marked track, trip and ground. However, as a late closing sort he will find the forecast modest early pace playing against his chances. Love Dreams has been knocking on the door of late, but an outside draw in stall 16 must be seen as a big negative.

LTO Speed: Matterhorn 127 Addeybb 112 Forest Ranger 106

There was no fluke about MATTERHORN's wide-margin defeat of odds on favourite Wissahickon in a ten furlong conditions event at Lingfield (AW) three weeks ago, evidence the career-best speed rating of 127 he posted on that occasion. Winner of seven of his nine races this all-weather season, the colt is still very much on the upgrade, and as a 4yo son of Raven's Pass, out of a mare by Darshaan, there seems little reason on pedigree why he shouldn't be just as effective on soft turf.

LTO Speed: Restorer 103 Epaulement 94 Aasheq 92

RESTORER (nb) posted a premier LTO speed rating of 103 when finishing second to Grey Britain in a 12 furlong handicap at Wolverhampton last December, and against same class rivals today could easily go one place better. Indeed, the gelding was successful in this race last year, on soft ground too, and following a layoff of several months. Making all on that occasion, but coming from behind at Wolves latest, this versatile sort should be happy whatever the pace scenario, not that I expect to see him throw away his advantage of a low draw in stall three. Available at 6-1 with a few firms at the time of writing, those odds should be taken.

LTO Speed: Austrian School 112 Cleonte 109 Low Sun 107

AUSTRIAN SCHOOL (nap) trotted up in a 1m 6f handicap at Musselburgh on his return three weeks ago, while at the same time managing to generate a premier LTO speed rating of 112. Clearly capable of going faster still, this improving 4yo son of Teofilo looks the one they all have to beat in this year's 17-runner Chester Cup, even more so as he is a proven winner here and very much at home on rain softened ground. I also like the fact that the colt has enough natural speed to cope with a predicted even pace.

Chester 4-10 Stakes (Class 3) 5f

 Kachy  0  (117)  (116)  (118)  --  --  --

LTO Speed: Kachy 117 She Can Boogie 87 A Momentofmadness 83

KACHY, with his best speed ratings of 118, 117 and 116, looks head and shoulders above his seven rivals in this Class 3 conditions event, not to mention the fact that he was a nine length winner of this race last year. However, a wide draw in stall eight and a predicted strong pace should ensure that Tom Dascombe's charge doesn't totally dominate proceedings. What am I saying? Of course he will!

LTO Speed: Charlie D 86 Saryshagann 82 This Girl 75

SARYSHAGANN hasn't been running too badly in this grade of late, with his last time out fifth at Haydock translating into a highly respectable speed rating of 82. Top on the master speed list with a figure of 84, the gelding is well up to winning a race of this nature, but will need to find that extra spark if he is to finish with his head in front today. Pencilled in at 7-1 on the early tissue, it makes plenty of sense to back him each-way on this occasion. Charlie D has been posting some speed rating of note on the all-weather of late, but has yet to show any useful form on turf.

LTO Speed: Faithful Mount 85 Drakensberg 85 Loud And Clear 84

BAYDAR hasn't been troubling the judge of late, but it's interesting to note that his top speed rating of 98 was earned over two miles on soft ground at York back in October of last year. This suggests the selection could be well suited by today's conditions, and off a falling handicap mark I fancy him to pull off something of a shock win. A 20-1 shot with William Hill at the time of writing, those odds should be taken.
