RICHARD FAHEY has his Musley Bank team in fine order as he heads into Chester week and with 11 winners in the past 14 days he has every reason to look forward to a meeting at which he has done so well in the past.

Forest Ranger looks the star of the show as he bids to win the Listed Huxley Stakes again where he will be joined by stable stalwart Gabrial and Brockleby winner Show Me Show puts his form credentials to the test in the Lily Agnes. There will be handicap tests for the likes of Cosmic Law, Gabrial The One and Pacino and the stable tally looks sure to swell considerably past the current total of 31 before the close of play next weekend.

With prize money once again sailing over the £3 million mark again last year his team look certain to be knocking on that door and Richard kindly spoke to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about some of his leading lights for the campaign, including those running at the Boodles May Festival.

Borodin (IRE)

Form Profile:

Winner of two of his nine starts and currently rated 91. Finished fourth, beaten a length and a half, to Hayadh in the Thirsk Hunt Cup at Thirsk on Saturday and previously third, beaten two and a half lengths, to Chatez in the Spring Cup at Newbury (1m) in April.

Trainer Says:

He has run two very solid races in big handicaps this season and wasn’t beaten far in the Thirsk Hunt Cup on Saturday. He is hardy individual and he should find one of these big mile handicaps soon enough.

Form Profile:

Winner of four of her 11 starts and currently rated 86. Scored by a length and a quarter from Everything For You at Musselburgh on Friday off a mark of 84.

Trainer Says:

She had improved as we have stepped her up in trip and we ran her last Friday at Musselburgh last Friday where she was 2lb well in after a good run at Ripon previously. She is going the right way and there could be further improvement in her.

Dance Diva

Form Profile:

Winner of four of her 13 starts and currently rated 96. Gained her last success when beating Clubbable a neck in a listed contest at Carlisle (7f) in June.

Trainer Says:

She is a useful fill who gained winning black type at Carlisle last June and was covered but things didn’t work out so she’s back with us. She like a bit of cut in the ground and didn’t get it last year but we are targeting her for the same Listed race at Carlisle next month.

Exhort

Form Profile:

Winner of four of her 15 starts and currently rated 93. Finished seventh of nine, beaten nine lengths, to Beringer on her reappearance at Newmarket (1m) in April off a mark of 95.

Trainer Says:

She was a bit disappointing on her reappearance at Newmarket in April but the ground was pretty quick and she was a bit fresh in the race. She had been working well and I am sure we will get some black type with her at some stage through the season. She will be a different proposition on decent ground over a mile plus.

Forest Ranger (IRE)

Form Profile:

Winner of four of his 17 starts and currently rated 112. Finished runner-up, beaten two and three quarter lengths, to Zabeel Prince in the Group 3 Earl Of Sefton Stakes at Newmarket (1m 1f) in April.

Trainer Says:

He won the Group 2 Huxley Stakes at Chester last May and the Group 3 Earl of Sefton at Newmarket last year and the plan is to go back to Chester this week after another cracking effort in the Earl of Sefton. Ideally, he likes a bit of cut in the ground but there always have good covering of grass at Chester and he should be fine.

Form Profile:

Winner of nine of his 89 starts and currently rated 100. Better effort this season when third, beaten five and three quarter lengths, to Sharja Bridge in a listed race at Doncaster (1m) in March.

Trainer Says:

He been a legend for us and he could also run in the Huxley Stakes this week. He ran well first time out in the Doncaster Mile but finished out with the washing in a handicap at Haydock next time. He’s getting a bit long in the tooth but he’s in good form and he will run in the Huxley Stakes for the fifth time on Friday.

Form Profile:

Winner of eight of his 53 starts and currently rated 106. Finished runner-up, beaten three and a quarter lengths, to Kachy in the AW Sprint Championship at Lingfield (6f) in April.

Trainer Says:

He’s a bit of twilight horse and hard to place but he ran a cracker when second to Kachy at Lingfield in April. The owners are keen to go for the Duke of York Stakes at York this month and, although it’s a tough ask, he is in such good form at the moment that he has to take his chance.

Form Profile:

Winner of one of his 14 starts and currently rated 94. Finished third, beaten seven lengths, to Safe Voyage at Haydock (7f) in April off his current mark.

Trainer Says:

He is a horse I have always like but I could have been getting his trip wrong and we will probably drop him to six furlongs at York. He works like a good horse at home, but he didn’t stay the mile in the Lincoln and ran better over seven at Haydock but still didn’t get home.

Form Profile:

Winner of seven of his 38 starts and currently rated 110. Gained his last success in a Group 3 event at Newbury (5f) in September when scoring by three quarters of a length from Take Cover.

Trainer Says:

He may find life a little more difficult this time around with his penalties for winning a Group 3 last year but h will go for the Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh on May 25. He’s tough and genuine and if the ground was heavy at Ascot I might let him take his chance in the King’s Stand.

Form Profile:

Winner of five of his 13 starts and currently rated 118. Finished sixth, beaten six and a half lengths, to Blue Point in the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan (6f) in March.

Trainer Says:

I was a little disappointed with his reappearance effort in the Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan where he didn’t finish the race well, but he was taking on hardened professionals and it was a big ask. However, that should have put him right for the season and he has been going very well at home since. We will be looking at York for him and if he didn’t go there then we would go straight for the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. He wouldn’t want it too firm and long term we are talking about the possibility of him going to Australia in October for the Everest.

Form Profile:

Winner of four of his 27 starts and currently rated 90. Best effort this term when finishing second, beaten half a length, to Aasheq at Pontefract (1m 2f) in April off his current mark.

Trainer Says:

He was just a bit flat on his last run at Ripon but it was my fault for running him too soon after a cracking run at Pontefract. He doesn’t have much in hand off his current mark but he will find a race when everything falls right for him

Trainer Says:

He needed the run on his reappearance at Newmarket in April and the plan is go for the big seven-furlong handicaps. He could to Ascot on Saturday for the Victoria Cup and I expect a much better showing this time. He is a consistent horse and he will win his share again.

Charming Kid

Form Profile:

Winner of two of his eight starts and currently rated 97. Landed a conditions event at Dundalk (6f) in January by two and three quarter lengths, from Empire Line.

Trainer Says:

He is a very quick horse and he won a race at Dundalk in January in good style and had no chance from a wide draw at Lingfield on Good Friday. He won’t find it easy off his mark but he’s a genuine horse and he should win his share of races.

Winner of three of his six starts and currently rated 84. Has won his last two races at Musselburgh and hacked up by six lengths from Mustadun there over nine furlongs off a mark of 84.

Trainer Says:

He won well at Musselburgh in April on his first run after a break and returned that course in style last Friday when following up. He will obviously go up in the handicap now but there should be more to come from him.

Form Profile:

Winner of two of his nine starts and currently rated 94. Solid effort when third, beaten five and a half lengths, to Vintage Brut in a listed event at York (6f) last October.

Trainer Says:

He won two races for us last season and ran well in defeat at a higher level after. He starts off at Chester on Wednesday in the six-furlong handicap and has a good draw and we would be hoping for a bold bid from him. He wouldn’t want it fast, but they are giving good ground at the moment and rain is forecast.

Winner of two of his five starts and currently rated 91. Narrowly failed to complete a hat-trick when runner-up, beaten half a length to Solid Stone in a handicap at Newmarket (1m 2f) in April.

Trainer Says:

He ran blinder over a mile and quarter at Newmarket on his first run on the turf and just managed to bump into a well-treated horse. He was put up 5lb for that run, but I think he can step up further and I could see him improving further as the season goes on.
