TOM DASCOMBE will once again of primed his team for the three-day Boodles May Festival that commences on Wednesday but this Bank Holiday weekend see the Manor House Stables trainer bidding for Classic glory with Great Scot and Jackstar looking to assist in proceeding at Newmarket.

However, as already it will be Chester that is a forefront of his mind as looks maintain his fine record with Kachy keeping the scoreboard going when successful at the Boodles May Festival 12 months ago but Tom would welcome his tally of 2017 when Newera, Hillbilly Boy, Kachy and Golden Glimmer were all successful.

The two-year-olds Dr Simpson and Iva Reflection look likely to represent Dascombe in the Lily Agnes and there will hopefully starring roles for some of strong team he takes to his local course. Tom kindly spoke to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about those he hopes can do well for him at Chester and beyond.

Form Profile:

Winner of eight of 28 starts and currently rated 105. Gained his last success in a handicap at Lingfield (1m) on New Year’s Day when beating Chevalier three lengths off a mark of 103.

Trainer Says:

He is a good solid six-year-old who run a good race runs a bad race and his mark is down to 92 on the turf and 105 on the all-weather. There is no reason he can’t be well-handicapped on the turf and he is in at Chester. He will probably go there.

Form Profile:

Winner of two of his nine starts and currently rated 78. Gained his last success when beating Vale Do Sol half a length at Wolverhampton (1m 4f) in October off a mark of 74.

Trainer Says:

He won at 100-1 at Wolverhampton last summer and his turf form is well behind what he has shown on the all-weather. There is no reason why that should be and if we can get him to run on quick turf he could find a race.

Winner of three of his ten starts and currently rated 97. Made a winning reappearance at Ripon (1m 2f) in April when beating Poet’s Prince half a length off a mark of 94.

Trainer Says:

He won nicely at Ripon first time out this year and he is a massive horse and he should continue his upward curve there is no reason why he won’t. He is at Chester in mile and a quarter race but I think we will be stepping him up in trip. He looks like he might be getting to the top of his handicap range.

Kachy

Form Profile:

Winner of nine of his 25 starts and rated 115. Has won both of his starts this year and, again, impressed when beating George Bowen in the All-Weather Sprint Championship at Lingfield (6f) last month.

Trainer Says:

He has won his last three broken two track records and won the All-Weather Sprint Championships. He has done everything – now have to get him to do the same on turf. His last good run on the turf was in the Temple Stakes last year when he was beaten a head and a neck. He will go back to Haydock for the Temple Stakes and if he stays in a straight line he will take plenty of catching. He is entered in the Jubilee and the King’s Stand and we will see how he gets on at Haydock before making any plans.

New Day Dawn (IRE)

Form Profile:

Winner of one of her five starts and currently rated 92. Off the mark with a seven-length win from Moll’s Memory in a novice event at Haydock (7f) in July.

Trainer Says:

She is a nice filly who got black type last year as a three-year-old. One of her owners bought her out of the partnership at the horses-in-training sales and the aim is to get more black type with her. She was in at Goodwood this weekend but won’t run and will probably go for a listed contest at Haydock on May 11. The idea is that she is going to be a broodmare for the owner and we have got to get black type on her and see how high we can get her rated. She is a very straightforward and will go on any ground.

Form Profile:

Winner of two of his 11 starts and currently rated 105. Finished sixth, beaten nine and a quarter lengths, to Marmelo in the Group 3 John Porter Stakes at Newbury (1m 4f) on his reappearance in April.

Trainer Says:

He pulled too hard in the John Porter at Newbury and we will drop him back into handicap company for now with the idea that we will try and get him into the Ebor. He is half way between a good solid handicapper and a listed/Group 3 horse.

He has been a bit in and out and he completely missed the break in the apprentice race at Lingfield on Good Friday. You can forget that, and we have always thought there was a nice race in him.

Arthur Kitt

Form Profile:

Winner of two of his six starts and currently rated 109. Finished fifth, beaten 10 lengths, to Cape Of Good Hope in the listed Blue Riband Trial at Epsom (1m 2f) on his reappearance in April.

Trainer Says:

He ran in the Derby Trial the other day at Epsom. He won the Chesham and finished fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf but he nearly fell over coming out of the stalls at Epsom. You can write that run off and he never got into a rhythm after that. He should be winning nice races somewhere throughout the season.

No wins from two starts. Finished third, beaten nine lengths, to Maksad at Newmarket (1m) in April on second start.

Trainer Says:

She finished third at Newmarket the other week and she has now run a couple of times. She is going to be a nice filly probably just a handicapper possibly not a black type filly, but she has a great attitude.

Casting Spells

  • 3 ch f Lope De Vega – Ballymore Celebre
Form Profile:

Unraced

Trainer Says:

She is a nice filly by Lope De Vega owned by John Dance. She has just started working and has actually pleased us. She will start life out somewhere probably over a mile in a fillies’ maiden. She could be anything we don’t know yet.

Drogon (IRE)

Form Profile:

Winner of one of his six starts and currently rated 91. Runner-up, beaten only half a length, to Jack Berry House in a novice at Newcastle (6f) in October when last seen out.

Trainer Says:

He is a nice horse who threw in a couple of peculiar race last year and was beaten at Chester in September when quite a short price. He almost ran off the track at Goodwood and I think we will stick to left-handed courses with him.

Form Profile:

Winner of one of his two starts. Scored by a length and a quarter from Ebury at Wolverhampton (1m 1/2f) in April.

Trainer Says:

She is a filly owned by Andrew Black and Chasemore Farm and she was just a naughty girl last year who proved tricky in the stalls. We ran her first time out this year at Wolverhampton and she duly obliged. She was going to run at Haydock but the heavens opened so we pulled her out. We will be trying to get black type with her.

Great Scot

Form Profile:

Winner of three of his six starts and currently rated 111. Finished runner-up, beaten three quarters of a length, to Mohaather in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury (7f) on his reappearance in April.

Trainer Says:

He is officially the best two-year-old I have ever had and now he is three he ran really well in the Greenham at Newbury. He run in the 2000 Guineas and I suppose he is a live outsider who could run into a place. They have been falling away some of them and he will like the trip and will like the ground and he is still improving.

Finished fifth, beaten 12 ½ lengths, to Fox Chairman in a maiden at Newbury (1m) in April.

Trainer Says:

He ran at Newbury first time out the other day and he finished tailed off. I can only put it down to the ground, he is a nice Declaration Of War colt and we left him in the Derby as we thought he was quite good. We are going to step him up in trip and try better ground in maiden and he is horse that will not be long in winning.

Winner of five of her ten starts and currently rated 107. Finished runner-up, beaten a short head, to Dandhu in the Group 3 Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury (7f) in her reappearance in April.

Trainer Says:

She runs in the 1000 Guineas and she is a homebred who won five for us last year and was just touched off in the Fred Darling. She has a preference for soft ground but doesn’t mean she has to have soft ground. She is tough genuine and I’m sure she will give us her best.”

Winner of two of his three starts and currently rated 90. Gained his last success when beating Delta River two lengths in a novice event at Wolverhampton (7f) in March.

Trainer Says:

He won first time out last year at Newmarket and then he basically had a year off due to a small little injury. He won at Wolverhampton nicely and we went for the Craven Stakes but he pulled very hard and didn’t stay. We are dropping him to six furlongs on Saturday at Newmarket and we have given him a provisional entry for the Commonwealth Cup. He is a horse we like and I don’t think we have seen the best of him yet.

He is a nice horse that won at York last season. He was huge horse and I am surprised we even ran him really. He should improve this year and he will go to York on May 15. I think he could be progressive.

She won a maiden at Newbury about three weeks ago and she only got rated 80. We are going to run her at Doncaster on Saturday against older horses and she’s only got 8st 1lb.She should improve as the season goes on and we are stepping her up to a mile and a half which should be suitable for her.

She is a sprinter and the owner is mad keen about Chester and she will be entered in everything she can run in next week. She is a mid-80s horse who doesn’t know when she is beat and tries really hard. She is a nice handicapper for those fillies’ only sprint races.
